Europe and Egypt in Photos

Jul 22, 2010 | Written in: Artwork, In Photos | Leave a Comment

After a few weeks since returning from my Spring backpack trip (list of cities) I finally found some time to gather a set of my favorite photos. This inspiration trip/photo safari/living for life journey resulted in around 3000 photos (actually very little for 9 weeks) and many good memories and experiences.

The following are some 250 of my favorite shots that tell the stories I want to share, and document the moments I never want to forget. They include architecture, people of the cities we visited, landscapes and scenery, and good moments of my traveling friends. I often take my camera out for photo hunts on my free time and a 9 week trip to Europe and Egypt was a great opportunity to do that every day. It was a challenge shooting quickly while constantly touring new cities and often only having one chance to get a photo right, but I managed to come up with some great images, and more importantly, great moments. Have a look and feel free to comment below.

Note on equipment: (Had to pack light!) Canon 450D with standard 28-135mm lens and 50mm lens, and the occasional point-and-shoot camera for anything with me in it. :)

Paris/Barcelona Custom Canvas Shoes

Jun 03, 2010 | Written in: Artwork, In Photos, Notes | 1 Comment

While doing a routine and much needed hard drive cleanup I came across these photos of an old pair of canvas shoes I customized, and since I’ve just returned from a 9 week adventure around Europe, it seemed fitting to post them. These shoes were a gift for my sister (an architect major) who lived a month in each city represented in this pair, so I decided to draw each one’s most famous structure — the Eiffel Tower and La Sagrada Familia (my favorite structure in western Europe).

If you’re interested in having a custom pair of canvas shoes (Vans/Toms of any type), contact me here or at karoleen.decastro [at] gmail [dot] com for more information. I work mostly through commissions, but an online site is in the works so keep a lookout for that as well. (Also, view a pair of Philippine Custom Vans here).

Merry (early) Christmas

Dec 17, 2009 | Written in: Artwork, Graphic/Web Design, Notes | Leave a Comment

OOG-christmas-card
Fish celebrating Christmas underwater, with kelp Christmas lights around a coral tree and all.

Because deadlines tend to wrap up at the end of the year and clients simmer down, December provides me time to design/illustrate this Christmas card for our fellow offices and clients, and for all of you too. In case I don’t get around to updating during the holidays, enjoy this e-card with an image of how I imagine fish celebrate Christmas under the sea. Merry early Christmas and Happy New Year!

Philippine Custom Vans – Cory and Ninoy Aquino

Oct 01, 2009 | Written in: Artwork, In Photos | 7 Comments

I received a request shortly following the death of former Philippine president, Corazon Aquino, to put art on a pair of canvas shoes as a tribute to her and her husband, Benigno Aquino, also a former Philippine president. They were two of the most influential figures in Philippine history and politics.

No matter what the surface, art is a connection, and it makes me happy that it can be spread anywhere, anyhow, and for any reason. RIP Corazon Aquino.
